What makes me different from other
SEO migration consultants
I'm Aurélien — a freelance SEO migration consultant who treats every migration like defusing a bomb. Meticulous planning, zero shortcuts, and full transparency from kickoff to post-launch.
Migration starts before development
I audit your current SEO state before a single line of code changes. Crawl depth, ranking pages, backlink profile — everything that needs protecting is mapped first.
No page left behind
Every URL that drives traffic or holds link equity gets a matching 301 redirect. I build the complete redirect map — not a partial one — before launch day.
Post-launch monitoring included
Launch day is when the real work begins. I monitor crawl errors, indexation, ranking signals, and traffic drops in real time — and fix issues before they compound.
Your GEO signals travel with you
AI visibility is built on brand signals and structured content. I make sure your GEO footprint — not just your Google rankings — survives the transition intact.
Why hire a freelance SEO migration consultant?
A site migration is one of the highest-risk events in SEO. Redesigns, replatforms, domain changes, URL restructuring — each one carries the potential to wipe months or years of organic rankings overnight. Without a dedicated SEO migration consultant involved from the start, businesses routinely lose 40–70% of their traffic in the weeks after launch.
As your SEO migration specialist, I work across the full migration lifecycle: pre-migration audit, redirect architecture, technical SEO validation, and post-launch monitoring. Every migration is different — CMS changes, HTTPS moves, international restructuring — and each requires a tailored approach, not a checklist.
Whether you're planning a migration months out or have already launched and are watching your traffic collapse, I diagnose the situation fast and implement the right fixes with precision.
The 4 phases of a safe SEO migration
Pre-migration audit
Full crawl of current site, ranking URL inventory, backlink mapping — everything that needs preserving is documented before anything changes.
Redirect architecture
Complete 301 redirect map — every URL that holds traffic or link authority gets a proper destination. No broken chains, no redirect loops.
Technical validation
Canonical tags, robots.txt, sitemap, hreflang, meta robots — every technical signal validated on staging before go-live.
Post-launch monitoring
Real-time crawl error tracking, ranking alerts, indexation checks — for 30 days minimum after go-live.
Numbers that
speak for themselves.
No promises. Measurable results, achieved for real businesses.

"Your GEO visibility
migrates with your site."
A migration doesn't just risk your Google rankings. It risks your AI visibility too. I make sure your brand signals survive the transition — so ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity keep citing you.
Content signal preservation
Structured content that AI tools cite must survive the migration intact. I audit and preserve every page that contributes to your GEO footprint during the transition.
Authority signal continuity
Backlinks and brand mentions are the backbone of both SEO and GEO. A broken redirect map breaks your authority chain. I ensure those signals transfer cleanly to the new site.
Dual channel protection
Google rankings and AI citations both need protecting through a migration. One strategy, two channels — your visibility doesn't have to take a hit.

What is SEO migration — and why does it matter?
An SEO migration is any significant change to a website's technical structure, URL architecture, domain, or CMS that could affect how search engines crawl, index, and rank it. The challenge: Google has spent months or years understanding your current site. A migration forces it to relearn everything from scratch — and without expert guidance, that relearning process almost always causes ranking drops.
The most common types of SEO migrations
Not all migrations carry the same risk level. A simple HTTPS move handled correctly costs almost nothing in rankings. A full domain change combined with a CMS replatform and URL restructuring, done without an SEO specialist, can wipe 60–80% of organic traffic in weeks. The most common migrations I handle are: domain name changes, CMS migrations (WordPress to Webflow, Magento to Shopify, etc.), full site redesigns with URL structure changes, HTTP to HTTPS transitions, and international site restructuring with hreflang.
Each type requires a different approach. What they share: the earlier an SEO migration consultant is involved, the lower the risk of ranking loss.
Why most migrations fail from an SEO perspective
Development teams are excellent at building websites. They're not trained to think about how Google processes URL changes, how link equity flows through 301 redirects, or how a missing canonical tag on a staging site can cause indexation nightmares post-launch. The most common migration mistakes are: incomplete or missing 301 redirect maps, staging environment accidentally indexed by Google, canonical tags pointing to the old domain, robots.txt blocking crawlers after launch, and meta robots set to noindex on key pages.
Every one of these mistakes is avoidable. Every one of them has caused businesses to lose months of rankings. This is exactly why hiring a dedicated SEO migration specialist before development starts pays for itself many times over.
How to plan an SEO-safe site migration
A successful SEO migration is not a list of things to do after development — it's a process that begins before a single wireframe is drawn. The planning phase is where 90% of ranking protection happens.
Step 1 — Audit your current SEO state
Before anything changes, I produce a complete inventory of your current site: every URL that drives traffic, every page with meaningful backlinks, every piece of content with existing rankings. This becomes the baseline against which the new site is validated. You can't protect what you haven't mapped.
This audit also surfaces technical issues on the current site that shouldn't be replicated on the new one — crawl traps, duplicate content, orphaned pages. A migration is an opportunity to clean the slate, not carry problems forward.
Step 2 — Build the redirect architecture
The redirect map is the most critical deliverable of any migration. It matches every existing URL to its new destination with a 301 redirect — including URLs that will be deleted, merged, or significantly restructured. Every redirect chain is checked for loops and excessive hops. Every high-value page gets a direct, single-hop redirect to its counterpart.
I also handle the edge cases: pagination URLs, filter parameters, XML sitemap redirects, and any international URL variants if hreflang is in play. The redirect map is tested on staging before a single redirect goes live in production.
Step 3 — Validate on staging before launch
Staging validation is non-negotiable. I crawl the staging environment with the same tools Google uses — checking canonical tags, robots.txt configuration, meta robots directives, internal link integrity, hreflang implementation, and schema markup. Every issue found on staging is a ranking drop avoided in production.
I also submit a pre-launch checklist to your development team covering the exact configuration changes needed before go-live: updating the sitemap, removing staging environment robots blocks, confirming redirect implementation, verifying Google Analytics and Search Console setup on the new domain.
Post-migration: what to monitor after launch
Launch day is not the end of an SEO migration — it's the beginning of the most critical monitoring phase. The 30 days after launch are when ranking impacts materialise, when Googlebot re-crawls and re-indexes the new site, and when issues that slipped through staging validation reveal themselves in production.
Crawl error monitoring
I set up automated crawl monitoring from launch day. Any 404 errors, redirect failures, or new crawl blocks are flagged within hours — not days. In a migration, hours matter. A broken redirect on a high-traffic page that isn't fixed within 48 hours starts affecting rankings.
Google Search Console provides the official view of crawl errors, but it lags by 24–48 hours. I combine GSC data with real-time crawl tools to catch issues before they show up in your traffic numbers.
Ranking and traffic tracking
I track ranking positions for your most important keywords from the day after launch. Small ranking fluctuations in the first two weeks are normal — Google is reassessing the new site. Significant drops on high-volume terms signal a problem that needs immediate investigation: a missing redirect, a canonical pointing to the wrong page, or a technical block on a key section of the site.
Traffic is tracked at segment level — organic, by landing page, by device. Organic traffic drops are expected to be minimal on a well-executed migration. If drops exceed 10–15% on key pages, we investigate the root cause immediately rather than waiting to see if it self-corrects.
Indexation validation
One of the most common post-migration failures: key pages that aren't indexed on the new site. This happens when canonical tags are misconfigured, when robots.txt is too aggressive, or when the sitemap submitted to Google Search Console doesn't match the actual live pages.
I validate that every priority page is indexed within the first two weeks post-launch. If a page isn't indexed, I diagnose the cause and submit manual indexation requests via GSC where appropriate.
Domain change migrations: the highest-risk scenario
Of all migration types, a domain name change carries the highest SEO risk. Google treats a domain change as moving to an entirely new website — every ranking signal associated with the old domain needs time to transfer. Without expert execution, domain migrations routinely cause traffic drops of 40–70% in the first month.
The Change of Address tool in Search Console
Google provides a dedicated Change of Address tool in Search Console specifically for domain migrations. It signals to Google that the old domain has permanently moved to the new one and accelerates the transfer of ranking signals. I configure this correctly — including timing it after all redirects are live and the new domain is verified in GSC — which is a step many agencies and developers miss entirely.
The Change of Address tool is not a magic fix. It works alongside your redirect map, not instead of it. Both are required for a clean domain migration.
Backlink profile management during a domain change
Every backlink pointing to your old domain needs to reach your new domain via a proper 301 redirect to pass its link equity. I audit your full backlink profile before migration to identify your highest-value links — from authoritative news sites, industry directories, or partner pages — and verify that those specific redirects are implemented and functioning correctly post-launch.
For your most valuable backlinks, I also recommend reaching out to those sites directly to update the link to the new domain URL. It's extra work, but it eliminates the redirect hop and ensures full link equity transfer without relying on a 301 indefinitely.
CMS migrations: from WordPress, Magento, or Wix to a new platform
CMS migrations are among the most common SEO migration scenarios — and among the most mishandled. Moving from WordPress to Webflow, from Magento to Shopify, or from any legacy CMS to a headless solution often involves significant URL structure changes, different rendering approaches, and new schema markup requirements.
URL structure changes during a CMS move
Different CMS platforms handle URL structures differently. WordPress might use /category/post-title/, while Shopify uses /products/product-title/. These differences mean thousands of URLs may change in a single migration. Each one needs a 301 redirect. Each one needs to be validated post-launch. A CMS migration without a complete redirect map is a guaranteed ranking disaster.
JavaScript rendering and indexability
Headless and JavaScript-heavy CMS platforms introduce rendering complexity. Googlebot can render JavaScript, but it does so in a second-wave crawl that can delay indexation by weeks. I audit your new CMS's rendering approach early in the migration process and recommend server-side rendering or static generation for SEO-critical pages where JavaScript rendering would cause delays.
Frequently asked questions
about SEO migration
SEO migration support starts at $799/month (SEO Momentum). For complex migrations — domain changes, full replatforms, international URL restructuring — the SEO Scale plan at $1,299/month provides the depth of monitoring and redirect architecture needed to protect rankings at scale.
As early as possible — ideally before development begins. The pre-migration phase is where most ranking loss is prevented. Involving an SEO consultant at the planning stage avoids costly fixes after launch.
A well-executed migration with a complete redirect map and proper canonical setup should show minimal ranking impact within 4–8 weeks. Poor migrations can take 6–12 months to recover from — if they recover at all.
Yes. AI visibility signals — brand mentions, structured content, authority links — must be preserved through a migration just like Google rankings. I make sure your GEO footprint survives the transition intact.
